Abstract

Literature serves as a reflection of human life, exploring complex experiences through narrative. Novels, as a form of literary work, employ characters as central elements to convey stories, themes, and conflicts, making character analysis essential for understanding psychological depth and narrative motivation. This study aims to analyze the character of Viego in Anthony Reynolds' novel League of Legends: Ruination. Using a qualitative descriptive method, the research draws data from the novel through close reading and documentation, focusing on textual evidence related to Viego’s characterization. The analysis employs an intrinsic approach, examining how elements such as theme, plot, and setting construct Viego’s dual role as both protagonist and antagonist. The findings reveal Viego as a complex character whose transformation from a loving king into a destructive antagonist is driven by despair and obsessive love, with themes of sacrifice, destruction, loyalty, and betrayal playing significant roles in his development. In conclusion, Viego’s characterization demonstrates considerable complexity, and the adaptation from video game to novel enriches his narrative dynamics. Suggestions for future research include examining additional intrinsic and extrinsic elements, applying different theoretical frameworks, and exploring other aspects of the novel or its adaptation.
