Abstract

Everyone in this world needs to interact with each other, and every country has a communication medium called language in order to exchange ideas and get information. Learning a foreign language is important; in this case in English, it is the mother tongue for most people in the world. Translation is needed by foreign language learners because it is one of the crucial tasks in the process of exchanging information. This study aims to explore the translation made by students based on Vilar et al. (2006) theory that emphasizes translation errors and the difficulties experienced by students, where the errors occur, as well as the percentage of each error in translation made by students. The study took subjects on 12th grade students of SMA Negeri 02 Ungaran in the academic year 2024-2025. The study used a descriptive qualitative method to analyse the data. The subjects of this study were 36 students. The instruments used in the study is tests. After going through tests, the findings reveal that there were 13 students made missing word, 7 students made extra word, 8 students made incorrect word, 8 students made punctuation errors, and 0 in unknown word errors. Based on the result, it is figured that the students still have difficulties in translation practice. Keywords: Translation Errors, Descriptive Text, Vilar et al.
